Comparison

Formala vs Voiceflow

Voiceflow and Formala barely compete, and a page pretending otherwise would waste your time. Voiceflow is a build platform for people who ship conversational agents professionally, with versioning, testing, API deployment and model-level control. Formala is a finished product you paste one line into your website. These pages exist because both turn up in the same searches, and the useful answer is usually that you want one or the other and will know which by the end of this paragraph.

A caveat Voiceflow states itself

Voiceflow's own documentation says its PII redaction does not apply to uploaded files, and advises against accepting uploads in flows that handle sensitive data.

If members of the public are going to send you documents, that is worth reading before you design the flow rather than after. We are repeating it here because it is Voiceflow's own guidance and it is easy to miss.

Where Voiceflow is better

  • It is a real build platform

Versioning, testing and API deployment. If you ship agents for clients this is the category difference and it is not close: Formala has no concept of a staging version of your assistant, and no way to deploy one agent to twenty customers.

  • Logic and API calls mid-conversation

Multi-step flows that branch, call your systems, use the answer and carry on. Formala answers from what you gave it and books appointments. It does not orchestrate.

  • Model control, voice, and configurable uploads

OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Groq, plus custom speech-to-text and text-to-speech, with telephony as a real deployment target rather than a microphone in a web chat. Uploads are the most configurable here too, storable in your own bucket.

Where Formala is better

  • There is nothing to build

One line of script and it answers today, from what you already wrote on your own site. Voiceflow gives you a canvas, which is the point of it and also the work: somebody has to design the flow, test it, and still be there in six months when a price changes and the branch that quoted it needs finding. For a business without that person, a build platform is not a cheaper option, it is an unfinished one.

  • Booking is the product, not a flow you assemble

Voiceflow has no native calendar booking at all; scheduling is something you build with API steps against whatever calendar you use, and then maintain. Formala connects to Google or Outlook, offers real free times inside the conversation, and writes the appointment back. For a business that sells appointments, the thing Voiceflow asks you to build is the thing Formala already is.

  • A person can step in

No built-in human handoff is a gap reviewers raise about Voiceflow repeatedly. Formala shows you who is chatting right now and lets you type into the conversation yourself, on every plan, with the assistant going quiet while you are in it and picking back up when you leave.

  • You can see the price before you talk to anybody

Voiceflow's pricing is now a conversation with sales, and the last figures it published were in April 2025 and have not been updated since. Formala's are four numbers on a page, and you can start on a free trial without talking to us at all.

Who should pick which

Pick Voiceflow if

You build agents for other people, or your agent has to call your systems mid-conversation, or you need a phone number answered, or you need model-level control. In every one of those cases Formala is the wrong tool and Voiceflow is the right one.

Pick Formala if

You run a business rather than an agent studio, you want it answering and booking into your own calendar this afternoon, and nobody on the payroll is going to own a flow diagram six months from now.

What reviewers say

Reviewers describe the credit billing as confusing, and debugging as painful once flows get large. The gaps raised most often are the lack of built-in human handoff, no native WhatsApp or Instagram, and no EU hosting or self-hosting option, which is a real obstacle for European buyers with GDPR obligations.

What we could not confirm

  • Voiceflow's current pricing. It is not published, and businesses are asked to request a quote. The April 2025 figures on this page are shown as history and should not be read as what you would pay today.

And it never switches off

$0 a month

No card to start. Your first 30 conversations are answered by the AI, over 30 days. After that the AI stops answering and the rest of it keeps working, for nothing, for as long as you like, carrying a small “Powered by Formala” line that any paid plan removes.

  • The contact formThe widget falls back to your own form, so a visitor who wants to reach you still can, and the lead still lands in your inbox.
  • Direct messagesVisitors can still leave a message for you or for a named person on your team, and reply to yours from the same thread.
  • BookingYour booking page keeps taking appointments, with the reminders and the calendar sync that go with them.

Add voice: let visitors talk to it out loud

A microphone in the chat. Visitors speak instead of typing and hear the answer back, and you get the same transcript and the same lead as any other conversation. Works with any plan, on as many forms as you like.
